![]() A little more about myself including my QualificationsMy background I was born in South London and spent my early years there before settling in Brixton. Eventually, I made my way to Bradford in West Yorkshire, where I’ve now lived for many years, in a village on the edge of the moors, between Bingley and Keighley. I have worked in teaching and helping professions since I was 16, both teaching and helping out in a local charity shop. I moved on to working in residential homes, first with adolescent boys, and ultimately in a women's refuge. During this period, I trained as a therapist and have been dedicated to this work ever since, achieving senior accreditation and later a Fellowship with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have worked at a national level by writing resources and giving speeches. For three years I was part of a team who travelled the UK explaining how the complaints system works. My career has been a rich mix of private practice and teaching, most recently as a Senior Lecturer at a local Yorkshire university. I have worked with an extraordinary range of issues and life experiences so very little will shock or surprise me. I have often been called practical and down to earth, possibly because I am not afraid to offer suggestions when approriate, but also ready to listen if they are not right for you. Currently, I focus on providing therapy, supervision, and writing about ethical issues within the profession. Recently, I completed additional training to support individuals who are blind or partially sighted, as well as their families and friends. I believe that the challenges faced by one person often ripple out to affect those who care about them. Main Professional and Educational Qualifications PGCE (Hudderfield:1993) MA in Counselling (Leeds: 2000) Awards Fellow of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA, now called Advance HE) Senior Accredited therapist (BACP) |
